First I must point out that I do not know Sacha Coburn, so I could well be wrong but this just stinks. This is the worst kind of lying, the liberal position on this is very very simple, a right to be free from violence. The supposed “right” to hit a child only exists so long as the law allows it, quite simply it is assault. But Sacha Coburns comments are just plain dishonest, she is clearly not a left leaning liberal in this situation, she is just claiming so for effect.
Taking the most neutral point of view that I can, I’m happy to acknowledge that no one way is defiantly correct. In this situation, it is just not right for her to claim that left leaning liberals should support re-instating section 59.
To claim to be a left leaning liberal, she has, hopefully, carefully weighed up both the conservative model and the liberal model, then chosen the liberal model, while hopefully acknowledging the criticism of that model from the conservatives. That is fine, what is not fine is then going and supporting what is clearly a conservative cause. She is only claiming the left leaning liberal part to try to gain support from the group that clearly shouldn’t and doesn’t support her. Shame on her.
